Week3: Final Outcomes & Presentation
Looking for boarding information

2019-10-19 / Sunshine
Brief: Design a conversation between a human and a machine.
Partner: Feye & Sia & Jiayi
Project Adjustment
On Tuesday of the second week, we adjusted our thinking. We decided to go to several scenes with a lot of monitors. For example supermarkets, museums, and airports. The first scene we came to was Sainsbury. We found a lot of monitoring. Included in the self-checkout location there will also be a monitor that monitors you at all times. But it's hard to think of a point to connect between people and monitoring. Because this is more like a record, human behavior is passively recorded in the camera, rather than having interaction between the two. So we decided to change the location and continue to observe.
Observation
We have chosen two sites for observation. I went to the airport with fei to do research, and sia and jiayi went to the museum to do research. I and fei found a lot of interesting things at Heathrow Airport. People will look for their boarding gates and boarding time in front of the airport electronic information card; they will check in on the self-check-in machine; the pick-up will hold the name card at the exit. I and fei told our observations to the other members of our group.
AEIOU
After the discussion, we finally selected the scene at the airport. Then we analyzed the AEIOU of the airport together. AEIOU is a design method that can help you to divergent thinking.
A:Activities —— What activities do people need to do in order to achieve their or your goals in the system?
E:Environments —— This means the entire arena in which activities take place.
I:Interactions —— Interactions are between multiple agents or entities, one or more of which may or may not be human.
O: Objects —— Objects can be physical or digital. They are the constituent elements of the environment.
U: User —— User are the entities whose behaviours, preferences, and needs are being observed.
Storyboard
We selected five more interesting scenes at the airport and recorded them in the form of a storyboard. The storyboard is also a very useful design method. This method can quickly help people understand the designer's design intent through plot presentation, and it can also help to find design risks. We decided to record 5 pictures at the airport. Someone saw the flight On the information board, checked the baggage, found the mouth, and found the toilet. Everyone is looking for a variety of airports because the airport is a large and complex place, we have found people's efficiency in communication and room for improvement. This goal-locking process to be more efficient.
Making the project
We showed the storyboard to the classmates and wanted them to choose the ones they wanted to improve in the five airports. The most votes at the end are how to quickly find the person you need to find at the airport. I started to design digital glasses. The pick-up person can sense the signal sent by the glasses with the passenger. The glasses will have a guide screen to help passengers find the person they want to find. But my team members felt that designing a pair of glasses would make the user feel a bit cumbersome. Fei directly opened the brain, hoping to make brain waves to form an image, So our team wrote a script along this line of thought.
On Saturday, our team members came to Heathrow Airport to shoot. Fei plays the passenger, Jiayi plays the person who needs to be found by Fei. I am responsible for the shooting. Finally, we made a video that shows how the conversation happens at the airport. The entire video was shot and edited by me alone. I tried to build a conversation for passengers in the airport, and the principle of how to look for direction is to perceive people’s brain waves. If they want to find someone or someplace, their brain will give them a hint and ask them to follow it. Then you will be positioned to the person you need to find. Connect a stereo navigation look. Quickly locate the target you need to find.
Feedback And Reflection
After the presentation, the students gave us feedback:
-
This is how our system should be suspended when the user needs to pause. This point is not considered.
After this project, I was also deeply aware of the importance of research. In the investigation, Observation is one of the most important aspects. Instead of relying on your own feelings and a few questionnaires, you can solve them. When I was doing projects in the past, I would always ignore the process of observation, and most of the time I was doing the design based on my own experience. This is a very bad habit. Through this method of learning, I realized the importance of observation and recording. In this way, I can not only get a lot of detailed information, which can help me improve my design but also help us better organize our thinking.
