Week1: Project Brief & Class Field Trip
2019-10-08 / Drizzle
Brief: Design an experience that centers on human senses.
Partner: Feye & Sia
Field Trip
The first project is about human senses. The teacher introduced us to four different places throughout the day, namely Bray, Borough Market, Return and History Museum.

When it leaves in the morning, it is still cloudy. It has been raining all the time. When it is almost noon, the weather is fine and the sun is very bright.
Travel Mapping
Our mapping is made up of four bottles. Because it was raining that day, we looked out of the window of the bus; the smog caused by things in the Boro market; the dimness of the monument, and the immersive experience in the museum, gave us a psychedelic feeling. So we used this visual feeling to complete our travel mapping.

My Inspiration
The feeling of sound left a deep impression on me during my day. And in the sensory experience, sound and smell are a feeling that is easily overlooked. So we want to put the taste that can be extracted in every place into the glass bottle and show it. For example, seawater smells. However, when we started to implement it, it was found that there was a certain difficulty in the generation and storage of odor, especially how to extract a similar taste. It is a rather difficult point. After several trials, we did not produce a satisfying and similar taste. So we gave up on this choice and re-find new inspiration through our travel records.

Second Thinking
Then we put the focus on the monument. Because this is my first time to go to the monument, it is full of freshness. But when I climbed up the stairs, I found that the top of the monument was surrounded by a 360-degree safety net, and the space was relatively small. We could only watch the city through the safety net. Visually caused some feelings of obstacles. Give us a feeling of being strongly locked in a cage. So we want to express this feeling most intuitively.
Introduction Of Product
Our work is a headgear made of wire. The handcrafting of the entire work was done by me alone. I chose to use wire to do the job. The first is to make the work and the safety net of the tower top similar in the material. The second is because the thin wire is soft enough to be easily shaped and why it is designed as a headgear. The first is because it is surrounded by a 360-degree security barrier on the top of the tower. Secondly, because there is little pressure on the outside scenery when you look at the security barrier, you can see the scenery outside the window after wearing it on your head.

Feedback And Reflection
Some students gave feedback:
-
they thought the design of our cage was a little small and too close to the human face, so there would be some visual discomfort.
This is the first project of the new semester, not as simple as I imagined. But I enjoyed the process very much. I experienced some fragments of life in London in one day, which was very new to me, so it left me a deep impression. I could easily recall this journey when I was working on the project later.
